University of Johannesburg assists staff with IT incident resolution via ICS chatbot.
Before the introduction of the Information and Communication Services(ICS) chatbot, or more commonly known as “Robbie” within the UJ environment the UJ ICS support team struggled to provide efficient and effective support to its staff members.
Gijima proposed the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning to alleviate and remediate the problematic aspects that caused the UJ support team difficulty while working. The following technologies were selected for the components of solution;
- Microsoft Bot Framework
- Azure Cognitive services
- Azure Data Storage
- QnA Maker
“It has been a long learning experience that would not have been possible without the patience and great effort for Gijima to understand our needs from the developers”

APPSolve, an IT services and support provider required an alternative hosting environment for their financial system as their previous provider could not fulfil their stated requirements.
The customer considered Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Oracle Cloud as an alternative to their hosting provider. Due to the nature to the Oracle customer application, the services could be hosted internationally so in country availability was not the primary factor to be considered.
Ultimately the value of Microsoft Azure was proven to APPsolve by Gijima and furthermore, assisted with the definition of and migration to a scalable infrastructure solution in Microsoft Azure.
“The implementation would never have been possible without the expertise and guidance provided by Gijima.”

University goes to the polls with Microsoft.
Since the inception of the University of Johannesburg (UJ) the annual Student Representative Council (SRC) elections have been a manual process. Students and student organisations had to complete and submit a printed registration form that had to be processed and reviewed by the election committee.
With thousands of students spread across 4 main campuses, the message and facility to submit registrations had to be made available and accessible to all.
Gijima Technology Service’s Microsoft team answered the call to: develop an environment that is accessible to all students and organisations on the Microsoft Teams platform and to provide electronic forms for the registration of nominations for each of the elections processes.
The provincial government was faced with the challenge of modernizing its data centre environment and to become more agile in providing services to business, users and ultimately the citizens of the province.
The first step in delivering the digital journey was the data centre shift away from physical infrastructure to Microsoft Azure. Gijima, as part of the Microsoft engagement, delivered a large-scale migration of the on-premise server landscape to Microsoft Azure utilising an industrialised approach for the migration.
The digital transformation of the services it provides has had immediate benefits. The new cloud-delivered service allows for the agile provisioning of an environment which in the past due procurement timeframes, have been holding back development. Internal IT teams could provision and test new applications and services within hours.
"The goal with the customer is to improve citizen satisfaction while genuinely improving lives. In this, the engagement provides the customer with the ability to transition into the next phase of their Digital Transformation strategy which will differentiate them and serve their citizens better."

Johannesburg-based Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) exists to pass legislation, provide a forum for citizen debate, involve the public in law-making and oversee the activities of the provincial executive. To fulfill the smooth delivery of these important civic duties, it relies on enterprise applications and software from SAP - software that's now easier and cheaper to support after a strategic move to Microsoft cloud (Azure and Office 365) swiftly carried out by a trusted Microsoft Partner, Gijima.
“We have reduced our time to market for new applications, provisioning of new hardware has never been easier or smoother - while our users really value the increased reliability of the systems they use every day.”

The Impendle Municipality was confronted with failed audit findings on IT service continuity from the Auditor General. The key objective of this engagement was to implement a consolidated platform that would provide Impendle with the capability to easily extend its data centre to Azure. Gijima implemented an Azure Site Recovery solution.
“The Microsoft Azure platform is providing us with a cost-effective way of addressing our disaster recovery concerns.”
Senior ICT Officer, Impendle Municipality
Vukile Property Fund is a property fund company, with their IT environment operating on Microsoft technologies. Vukile had to refresh existing hardware with consideration for disaster recovery infrastructure and the respective facilities. The Microsoft Azure solution was really appealing for Vukile. This meant that they would only have to focus on connectivity rather than having to invest in data centre facilities and refreshing hardware and storage. Because they have already invested in other Microsoft technologies, it made sense to reap the benefits of a more integrated approach.
